Unit 6 Reflection Blog - Digital Composition

Image
What is Digital Composition?? Before i learned what it was in class, i had no idea. Well, i mean, i had an idea but not a great idea.  To me, digital composition made me think of collages! Which, i actually made recently! In my intercultural communications class i actually assembled my own identity collage, which was a very quick and easy way to share who i was as a person in a digestible and easy way. I actually loved this assignment, and i had to write an essay to go along with it, which i also adored as well!  Digital composition also made me think of things like photoshop, and digital art, which i also inidge in the latter of! Ive dont photoshop before in school, and to be honest... i absolutely hated it. I despised it. Completely. But, digital art has always been so much fun for me, and i shared a digital piece of art i created for a different assignment in school in an earlier blog post!  Digital composition was a lot of ideas in my head of what it could be, ...

Unit 5 Reflection Blog - Blogging and Podcasting

What do blogging and podcasting add to a classroom? Personally, i think a lot!  This blog will be a little different, because i want to talk about assignments and things you can do to engage with students when it comes to podcasting and blogging, because i actually really really love these two tools in the classroom, and believe they can be highly useful in how we teach literature today!  For context, i have never blogged before this class, but i have listened and engaged in podcasts for a longer part of my life, and i greatly enjoy them! However, i've never used either of these tools in the classroom before, and i truly believe that my teachers had wasted potential in using these mediums to teach and engage with their students. And I'm going to share why i feel that way with you all!  Podcasting and Blogging are for everyone!  Lets start with blogs, shall we?  Blogging is very easy to do, and all you need is some form of technology to do it, which makes bloggin...

Unit 4 Reflection - Video, Video Games, and VR

The Art Of Video Games!     To be honest, I've never been the biggest gamer in the world, but i always found video games absolutely fascinating! I grew up playing the original Wii, and actually had a Nintendo DS at one point in my life, and i remember playing that thing religiously. I genuinely enjoyed the world that video games took me to, and as i grew older i began to enjoy the stores in the games way more than the actual games themselves.       When i was 11, i discovered the world of Lets Players, which is basically just people filming themselves playing video games, and i found so much enjoyment in that! why waste so much money when i can watch someone play the game and hear their funny commentary? It opened up my eyes to the wider world of video games, and i got to see so many creative games and ideas that i had never heard of before! I started to watch video analysis of some of my favorite games, and before i knew it i...

Unit 3 Reflection - Social Media in the ELA Classroom

Social Media.. Does it have a place?  Yes and no.  Well, to be honest, i don't like social media very much. I actually find to be a very toxic and harmful environment, but i do see the value in it sometimes. I know that for the world around me social media will always be there, that's just how the world is today. So, because of that i have to find ways to include it in my classroom, even if i, myself, am not a fan of it.  To be honest, i think a blog like the one I'm using now is way more insightful and useful to a classroom than social media like tiktok and instagram is, because a blog is mostly writing, and is very personal, whole on bigger social medias you have to have some sort of character, or signature to get popular and grow. Social media is a job now, and it isn't really seen as a tool to be social anymore. Its seen as a way to promote business, spread messages political or non political, to share your art and open commissions through, and so much more. But...

Unit 2 Reflection - Multimodal Composition

Image
What is Multimodal Composition? Welcome back again!  I hope you're all doing well, and having a wonderful semester so far! To get on track here, multimodal composition was definitely another word I knew absolutely nothing about! When we first started talking about it, I assumed it meant just using multiple types of learning tools, and to a point I wasn't wrong, but I didn't really understand the complexity of the term. After learning a little more about it through reading, I can confidently say that multimodal composition is the act of teaching using multiple forms of learning, whether that be visual, auditory, physical, musical, mathematic, and social.  Its using the different ways people learn to teach, and doing some of them at the same time to hopefully make learning easy to understand and fun to a point!  This was made the clearest through the article called "Modernizing Shakespeare with Multimodal Learning Stations", where teachers set up multiple stations ...

Unit 1 Reflection - Visual Literacy

Image
What is Visual Literacy?  I asked the same question myself when i began this unit! To be honest, I had never really heard of visual literacy before, or why it would even be valuable to me as a teacher or a student. My reaction initially was confusion.  From my understanding now, visual literacy is combining visuals with reading, and the biggest example we used for this was graphics novels, which i adore! Visual literacy is for people who don't just learn through words, but who learn through seeing it in a visual format, weather that be art, or a diagram, or a graph for some examples.  The one article that really made this clear to me was "I Just Need To Draw", which showed multiple examples of students sharing what they've learned through art. One of my favorites was figure 5, made by a 12 year old named Adam. This honestly made me feel that no matter what art skills you have, you can prove yourself and how smart you are through visuals.  I, personally, am an a...
